Religion in liberal Taiwan

Diverse religious rituals and beliefs, mostly those related to preserving the old Chinese culture and religion, make Taiwanese religion unique.

No matter what religion you belong to, you can practice it in liberal Taiwan, which guarantees religious freedom.

The World Bank reports that Taiwan has a high score of 9.2 on its 2018 Freedom Scale.

The majority of Taiwanese adhere to Chinese folk religion, which is a combination of Buddhism, Taoism, and frequently a Confucian worldview.

Religious affiliation is distributed as follows:

Buddhism (60.7%); Taoism (21.7%); No religion (18.7%); Christianity (3.9%); Yiguandao (3.5%).

There are more than 33,000 sites for religious believers to worship and congregate within Taiwan’s territory: typically, one temple, church, or other religious structure every square kilometer. It is the region with the largest density of religious structures in the Chinese-speaking world.
